Blog Assignment #18 by Kotaro Arashiro

Today, I’m going to talk about meaning to be polite in my culture. I’m from Japan and I was grown up in Japanese culture. Japan has a lot of attractive culture such as historical temple and the castle of Japan and Japanese food which express beauty and the season of nature. Recently, these become famous in the world. Also, Japanese are known for being polite. I think it is very good thing because being polite is important for all people. To be polite is meaning that respect other person. Japanese people respect other person in any other situation. For example, it’s the custom for Japanese to bow when they meet at acquaintance. Bow means that respect for other person. Japan has a long history. I think the feeling to respect for other person has been regarded as important from old days. This is something that Japan boasts about to the world.

  1. Sometimes I hear news praising the politeness of Japanese people. For example, at a soccer match, fans clean up the stadium after the game. It sounds not so special thing for me, but I feel proud of my country when I hear that kind of news. Bowing is one of cultural characteristics in Japan. As you said, Japanese manners are created in a long history. I think attractive cultures should be handed down for the future.
