Blog Assignment #18 by Ayana Shinogi

Japan is a society that worth politeness and harmony, so it is very import things to polite behavior  in Japan. When I say somebody is polite in my culture, someone don't annoy others. It is not polite things to annoy others in Japan. For example, there are proverb that “shitashikinakanimoreigiari” in Japanese. It is mean that courtesy should be even among intimate friends in English. When I was a little child, I was taught my mother a lot of manners. For example, if you get something from someone, you should say “Thank you”, before you eat meal, you should say “Itadakimasu” and after meal “Gotisousamadesita”. Why it is important to polite in Japan? I think that Japan is very small country and an agricultural tribe so everyone knows you. Accordingly If you do impolite behavior, everyone will know easily and consider you bad person. In conclusion that  Japan come to be a society that value politeness and harmony.

  1. I think so too. I heard that the population density in Japan is ten times as much as that of America. I guess this situation has something to do with personality of people. As there are many people living together in small area, Japanese people probably place value on politeness.
